As an experienced professional, Tommy has spent the past three decades perfecting his skills and leadership. He enjoys digging in on complex issues or problems in order to find the simplest (not always the easiest!) path through to a shared solution. Tommy is energized to partner with the team at Financial Designs to work collaboratively with clients to meet their goals and dreams.
Tommy spent 15 years in wealth management, first as an Investments Product Manager in Richmond, VA, with Central Fidelity Bank and then as Senior Investment Management Consultant and Second Vice President at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney located in Winston-Salem, NC. Following a successful 15 year career in banking and wealth management, in 2010, Tommy followed a calling to serve as Headmaster at Virginia Episcopal School, his alma mater. His ten-year tenure was marked by a 50% enrollment increase in a time of declining boarding school enrollment nationwide. During this time, net tuition revenue increased by over 80% and the school completed a $36 million capital campaign that resulted in endowment growth, campus renewal, and improved financial operations at the school. While the business improvements for the school are notable, Tommy is most proud of the strong student and faculty cultures and the strong board, alumni and parent engagement that sustains VES today.
Tommy has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia, and an M.B.A. from the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary. Tommy has held the Certified Financial PlannerTM designation since 2007 and holds his Series 66 and 7 Securities Licenses. Tommy and his wife, Mary Stuart, live in Lynchburg, VA with their three children and loyal black lab.
With an impeccable history in financial services and business operations, Tommy is sure to bring both experience and innovation to the team and clients of Financial Designs.
